It is unbelievable to me that it has been over a week since the storm and caltrans still will not open a route to mount waterman.
If the resort was planning to run mid-week I believe the priority would be much higher on the caltran list.
It's a bit of a joke in southern california how caltrans and the CHP conduct themselves.
Mt Waterman is an unbelievable gem, easily better than any other southern california skiing by a long shot. I wish it wasn't being operated as if it were a personal weekend hobby project.
It's extremely hard to believe that we don't all have like 30,000 vertical feet in this year already.

Please get it together.. Please.

We are so frustrated!

PS. I am grateful you are running at all !! So thanks and sorry if I'm a little aggressive.

Anyone know how to hot-wire

Anyone know how to hot-wire a caltrans snow plow? ;)

Seriously though -- it looks like the issue is more than just being able to plow some snow off the roads. And it doesn't sound like they intend to fix it -- According to caltrans:

--------------
SR 2
[IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED FROM 2 MI EAST OF THE JCT OF I 210 /IN LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE/ TO
ISLIP SADDLE (LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO A MUD SLIDE - A DETOUR IS AVAILABLE

IS CLOSED FROM ISLIP SADDLE TO 5 MI WEST OF BIG PINES (LOS ANGELES CO)
- FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

ALL TRACTOR-SEMI TRAILER COMBINATIONS WITH 3 AXLES OR GREATER ARE
PROHIBITED FROM THE JCT OF I 210 /IN LA CANADA-FLINTRIDGE/ TO THE
ANGELES FOREST HIGHWAY (LOS ANGELES CO) - ALTERNATE ROUTES ARE AVAILABLE
--------------

I guess the state has decided the tax revenue from Waterman and other businesses doesn't pan out for the cost of clearing the roads... budget cutbacks at their finest. =(

we are desperate

Our only alternative for weekend skiing requires us to deal with the worse traffic I've ever seen at all of the other resorts. I check the Waterman site everyday to see when it will open. I will not deal with the weekend crowds at Baldy, Wrightwood or Big Bear anymore. Please open Waterman soon! I'm running out of sick days for weekday skiing!

Its not their fault

I am bummed out too about the road closure. Cal Trans is stretched and the state is broke. Newcombs and Waterman are hurting because of it. I think they will eventually get the road open so we can ski up there, so be patient.
